Mommy and Daddy
by Gwyn McMakin
I love my mommy and daddy
They are so nice to me
Nicer than my last mommy and daddy
I’m glad they’re gone
I love my mommy and daddy
My daddy likes to bring me to work with him
I like looking at the tools he uses
And everyone there loves me
I love my mommy and daddy
But I’m not so sure about my sisters
They make mommy and daddy play with them
I wish they played with me more
I love my mommy and daddy
It makes me sad they they’re sad
I wish they weren’t
She’s not worth their sadness
I love my mommy and daddy
I ran to them when Alice fell
Flailing, gasping, struggling
Then she stopped
I love my mommy and daddy
But I do not love Constance
She keeps getting in the way
Mommy and daddy say shes special because she can't see very well
I love my mommy and daddy
They were sad when Constance fell down
I watched her scream all the way down
Then she stopped
I love my mommy and daddy
But now they are always sad
I don’t understand why
Now they don’t have to play with anyone else, just me
I love my mommy and daddy
They play with me even less than they did before
I just want them to play with me
If they won’t, I’ll have to find someone else too
I love my mommy and daddy
Daddy takes me into his shop
I sit next to the pretty, shiny tools
They were so pretty I decided to take one
I love my mommy and daddy
But they won’t play with me
Not at all anymore
I need a mommy and daddy who will play with me
I love my mommy and daddy
They are asleep in their bed
I walk to their room
My new shiny toy in hand
I love my mommy and daddy
But they won’t be happy
I don’t think they ever will be again
I can use my new toy to fix that
I love my mommy and daddy
I put my new toy to my mommy’s throat
Then my daddy’s
I climb back into my bed, abandoning my new toy
I love my new mommy and daddy
They play with me all the time
More than my last mommy and daddy
